Slavic Sacramento’s editor in chief Ruslan Gurzhiy was ejected from the Hyatt Hotel in Sacramento during a celebratory meeting of the Ukrainian diaspora with the members of the official delegation from Ukraine, including Mikhail Saakashvili and Nadezhda Savchenko.
“I was just thrown out of the hotel in Sacramento where a celebratory dinner was held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence,” – wrote the journalist on his Facebook page. – “Special thanks goes to Stephan Skots and Ukraine Relief, who most likely would not have achieved worldwide recognition without my help. I hope my $250 dinner plate goes to the starving Savchenko. More on this later.”
Invited to the event, which was held on Friday night in the downtown of the California’s capital, were the members of the official delegation from Ukraine – the acting governor of Odessa region Mikhail Saakashvily, the former Kremlin prisoner Nadezhda Savchenko, and the Senior Bishop of the All-Ukrainian Union of Evangelic Christian Churches Michael Panochko, as well as numerous representatives of the local diaspora.
Earlier the Ukrainian delegation participated in the session of the State Assembly where the resolution about the recognition of Holodomor was adopted by California legislators.
No information about the reasons for the ejection has been published yet.
